In addition to the individual works that Jai creates, he develops collections of work based on themes that are influenced by his journey through life and the experiences that he has had. These collections are researched and chosen, based on social aspects which he feels are of great significance when analysing the world in which we live. Each collection explores a theme within society that is often overlooked, or in some cases dismissed due to the nature of the topic.

Jai and Rebecca began working together when he introduced some of his art and Rebecca's written description of what she saw, captured the spirit of the piece beautifully. They began long conversations about art which developed into topics of society, politics and economics, but always with the human aspect at the centre of their concerns. Initially, Rebecca was hired to write the descriptions of artworks Jai had already planned, but as they talked, they began to develop the collections together, considering how important certain aspects were and how to portray them visually. Rebecca has tremendous faith in Jai as a person and as the artist who is able to capture spirit in each piece he creates. As a writer, she has found a fellow creative soul, who inspires her to explore her thoughts and encourages her to express herself, whilst pursuing her creative outlet as a career. Having completed Jai's biography, she has developed her method through lengthy discussions and feedback from Jai, which allows her to perfect her technique for each piece she completes. Jai and Rebecca work together by openly discussing experiences they have each had throughout their lives, and how those experiences have enabled them to look beyond the surface, to explore alternative meanings and to gain an understanding of the variables that adjust the balance within human society. They have found their open minded approach to these conversations, coupled with their curiosity, drives their thirst for knowledge beyond what is offered, towards a well researched offering of suggestions which inspire others to do the same.

Each collection of visuals, has been created to inspire thought, free from constraints of prior conditioning, with the intention of expanding our understanding of these topics. While some topics may appear controversial, Jai and Rebecca feel it is vital to look at old ideas with a fresh approach, to find new ways to look at a situation in order to fully comprehend why we as a society enable it to exist, and in some cases, choose to follow that which is designed to distract us. By viewing the different collections, you are invited to consider the topics presented through the visuals, which have been specifically designed to elicit an emotional and inquisitive response, as is the case with most of Jai's art. Each one has been created with an open minded perspective, in order to demonstrate that we do not represent or support any particular school of thought, we simply observe and question.

OFF-LINE

Offline is a series themed on a global internet ban for one day.

At exactly midnight last night the internet cut off across the globe. There have been no demands from terrorists, NASA has not declared any solar flares to be responsible, so far we have no clue as to what has happened, or how long it will last.

What we do know is that panic has ensued, we have reports of crowds of people gathered in the streets trying to find out what's happened, businesses have reported record absences from their employees, children have been kept out of schools, phone shops have closed their doors due to the sheer numbers of people demanding answers. The emergency services have been inundated with questions ranging from whether stores will be open, to what temperature to cook a chicken.

The public are not the only ones concerned. A great number of services and businesses now rely on the internet, but individuals have learnt to rely so heavily on internet access, that they have lost the ability to function without it. Whilst one day without internet access may not create damage that cannot be rectified, there do not seem to be many businesses that have a contingency plan in place for if we ever reach a day that the internet is lost forever. The United States Cyber Consequences unit suggest that any longer than four days without the internet globally, could change the world as we know it.

Considering the average of 3.2 billion searches a day, it's not difficult to understand how reliant we have become on reaching for that phone or tablet to get a quick and convenient answer. However, for some, it seems to be their only method of research, and the most simple of questions will be asked of the internet on a monthly basis, such as what time it is in different parts of the world, what the weather will be like, and how to get pregnant!

So we have gathered a number of reports that present a more whimsical look at internet usage, in the hopes that today is merely a glitch, and tomorrow the world will awake with a sigh as they can get all the answers once again

GREEN SCREEN

What the camera records to how the footage is edited to our perception of it are three very separate things.

What are the latest headlines? What do they tell you about events that are happening right now?  Do you believe that all the facts are given to you in that report?

Conspiracy theorists believe that the truth is often concealed, twisted, or changed to suit another purpose.

Perhaps to protect the public from the reality.

Perhaps to make you believe a story that's more convenient for those who tell it. It seems that with the internet, the rise in availability of information, has aroused the interests of those who seek to question our reality.

There have been multiple periods in history where the reporting of events have been questioned, the moon landing being one of the most frequently challenged. This questioning has been labelled as conspiracy theory, but what is a conspiracy theorist? A nut case? A non conformist? Or perhaps, a researcher with an alternative opinion based on gathered evidence. It seems that this question is unlikely to be answered so easily, as the term has become almost derogatory, if it is seen as negative to believe in conspiracy theories, then surely less people will be open to the suggestions they make.

An alternative question may be, to ask when it become normal practice to question the reports of global news and events. Due to the increase in outlets, such as television channels, blogs and websites devoted to providing alternative information, the curious have been allowed to explore, and to wonder which source should be believed.

If covert evidence exists that can alter the perception of an event, it seems it was not presented originally, thus preventing the public from making a more informed decision. It could be that it is now the responsibility of this public to seek out the truth, without the possible bias of those who wish to obscure certain facts. We are led to believe that the media exists to provide factual information, but if it is the case that they are obscuring details due to a hidden agenda, it becomes difficult to identify which source has the more reliable information.

In 1963 President JF Kennedy was assassinated, this we know as fact. There have been multiple claims regarding who the killer was and why JFK was targetted. The complete files containing details of the event, were kept secret by White House agencies until October 2017 when a large number of them were released. However, some were kept secret, as it was claimed that their contents could pose a threat to national security. If the suggestion is accurate, that Lee Harvey Oswald was a disturbed member of the public, who acted alone, it seems absurd that by releasing all of the gathered evidence on the case, the nation's security could suffer.

Therefore, this leads to the question of what is being hidden and why, which in turn adds fuel to the conspiracy theory that the government were somehow involved, if not directly culpable.

Do conspiracy theories raise important questions, or are they founded in frustration, due to the lack of reliable facts regarding events that the public believe they have the right to know about? It is possible that the information we are presented with, has been tampered with in order to persuade us of stories that portray a more beneficial image for those who are reporting them. Media bias has been established in a number of minor cases, so it is plausible that every official source is open to manipulating the truth if instructed to do so.

Text can deliver any message desired, but what if we saw the reports live, looked at the pictures. Surely a picture or a video can't lie.

Green screen is a visual aid used in adverts and movies to provide an illusion, from dinosaurs, to explosions, anyone who has watched an action movie or seen a weather report has witnessed green screen, but we question whether the use of these special effects has been limited to entertainment, or whether there is even a possibility  that it could be used to create news reports.

The collection Green Screen uses the idea of conspiracies to portray a number of events, as if they were being manipulated to create an alternative version of those events. Some are widely considered conspiracy theories, others are lesser known, but each are open to further research, should the viewer be interested in considering other possibilities.

FILTERED REALTY

Is what you see what I see?

It maybe the same, can you see?

Is this real life? Do we see reality, or have we applied filters to distort the view until we reach a more comforting version?

A filter is a mechanism by which the appearance of the filtered object is modified, elements are withheld or absent in order to create an alternative. From infancy, we are taught according to guidelines of education, culture and religion and each has an agenda used to shape us in a way that benefits that lesson.

As we evolve and interact, complications emerge regarding how we feel about aspects of our lives, and we seek answers using our experiences, our history and how we have been influenced to think. The truth may not be as reassuring as we would like it to be, perhaps this is the point at which we introduce a filter, in order to make what we see more in line with how we had imagined it to be.

So do these become our filters for how we view the world and society in which we live? We are inundated with information regarding how we should feel, what we should buy, who we should listen to. Each adjusts our view on what is best for us as individuals and how to achieve the best results from our efforts, but do we then see the reality or is it distorted according to these experiences and the bias they introduce?

Imagination is such a powerful tool, it is possible that we use it to subconsciously suggest alternatives to reality, based on bias that develops through each of these elements, therefore allowing our thoughts to be shaped in a way that creates a more acceptable view.

The collection Filtered Reality,

presents images of human experience deconstructed to explore the space between imagination and reality and what we use to filter one to become the other.

HUMAN QUOTA

People are numbers, objects of value and insignificance.

Human beings, as a species, vary very little. However many are not perceived as equal, and discrimination has become an issue for many such as those of different skin colour, religion, class or gender.

One type of exclusion is due to the prejudice associated with racism. People of different skin colour, regardless of their birth place, are often seen as a lesser value than others, and are treated with measurable disdain. It has been suggested that there is clear evidence of this within the police force in multiple countries. For example, a prison population should typically be representative of the population it serves, however in multiple instances there appear to be a disproportionate number of black inmates. Some would suggest that black people must commit more crime, others propose that this is not the case, and that it is the racial stereotyping of black people, that causes the police to act with prejudice and to target black people when searching for offenders.

A further source of discrimination is towards those of specific religions. With terrorism a very real threat to many throughout the world, and the increase in terrorist related atrocities, some have opted to use this as an opportunity to vocalise their prejudice. Reports of innocent people being attacked simply because of religious articles of clothing they wear, are on the increase. Religious buildings being targeted for reciprocal attacks by people who are willing to kill others purely because of their religion.

Gentrification is the practice of improving the status of a neighbourhood by increasing rent, price of goods and introducing residents with a higher wage. There are multiple pros and cons, however the negatives to some, vastly outweigh the positives.

It appears that families are priced out of the area where they are part of an established community, in order to increase the social status of the area. Small independent businesses suffer the same fate, or risk losing business by increasing the prices of their goods so high, that local residents can no longer afford to buy them.

Whilst gentrification does affect those of a lower wage bracket, it could be suggested that there is less concern for these individuals due to their belonging to the working class. Class is a difficult status to identify, as it is not fully accepted how people climb the class ladder. It is suggested that the amount of money a person has or earns, is an indicator of their class status, however it seems possible that an individual may improve their financial situation, but remain to some as lower class due to their attitude. A fairly recent incident occurred in which a celebrity with a great deal of money, was refused entry to an austentious membership area due to her "working class" status, which suggests class status is not entirely financial. Perhaps education and aspirations are the true indicator, but does that depend on what the person achieves. It seems unclear whether a person truly can achieve class mobility, or whether the bias towards them dictates the welcome they will receive in any situation where class is a clear enough issue.

Gender bias has been observed in a number of circumstances; countries in which women are given maternity leave of up to a year, whilst the father's are only given a couple of weeks. Women not receiving fair treatment with regards to promotion, due to an expectation that they are the typical primary care givers, therefore will likely require time off for motherly duties, thus creating a deficit in the work place. This collection however, will concentrate on the gender wage gap, the issue of women being paid less than men for the same employment status, a subject which has met many problems in the efforts to reduce the gap.

It seems human beings have become ranked on groups that they belong to, rather than the specific merits of each individual. To search through history, this has been a clear factor in the treatment of people for hundreds of years, but as we have entered a new millennia, wherein progress has indeed been made with women's right, the abolishment of slavery and a decrease in staunch religious doctrine, it doesn't appear as though we as a species, have actually advanced far enough to a point where people are people, regardless of the way they were born, or choices they have made.

The collection, Human Quota seeks to explore some of these inequalities by exposing areas within society, that seek to differentiate between individuals with negative alterior motives.

Everyone has 1 hour of freedom in a day. A peaceful hour, a selfish hour, a spiritual hour.

Money the great illusion!

What is money really, a trade for time? We adopted the use of paper and coins to replace bartering of goods. As members of society, workers use their time to barter for money. Starting at a set minimum wage, we convince employers of our skills, gain new skills via education, all to barter for more money per hour. Then once we get more money, we swap it for goods higher in price, ever chasing the illusion that this is the path to happiness, to life fulfilment.

But of course it is! How else would we survive, we must pay for food, pay for shelter, pay for warmth, clothing, tv, wifi, phones, if we didn't work we'd be homeless and starving!

So we work. We swap our time for money. We swap our money for things. Are we robots, working to keep the economy functioning, preparing the next generation to do the same, and the next and the next? With no sign of any real alternative, all we can do is continue, but we must then make the best use of our time away from work, take every opportunity to enrich our existence and benefit from what time we have free to live.

The majority of people work for 40 hours a week 5 out of 7 days. With 24 hours in a day, that is 120 hours devoted to working days each week. The average person sleeps 8 hours per night, and works 8-9 hours per day, take out time for preparing meals, eating, showering, getting dressed, getting undressed, housework and of course getting to and from work, and you're left with about 1 hour of totally free time each day.

What do you do with your 1 hour of freedom, your spiritual hour?

The Spiritual Hour is a collection based on interviews of 10 full time workers. Each workers is asked a series of questions regarding their employment and free time. The visuals are inspired by how each person chooses to spend that spiritual hour each day, with the intention of highlighting how the need for money that we have been taught is natural, actually reduces the little time we afford ourselves to enjoy the life we have.

 EMOJI WORLD

People are numbers, objects of value and insignificance.

Emojis, invented in 1999, have infiltrated our language to give us a tool to represent emotion in written communication. Symbols have been used in many ancient languages, so perhaps it is a natural progression for us to return to them. However unlike hieroglyphs and (Mayan symbols) emojis are more specifically related to feelings, such as happiness, fear, anger, frustration, and tend to create a tone for the message that ensures it is received correctly.

As there are over 2000 recognised emojis in use worldwide, we have to consider how they affect the people who use them. Some people may be more susceptible to mood alterations when they see a sad or angry face, yet the sender may not have had such an intent. Then there is the replacement of chosen words, given the rise in mental health awareness in recent years, it is possible that some people may find it easier to express themselves with a handful of emojis rather than having to select the words to describe difficult feelings.

The range of emojis is rapidly expanding, people of multiple ethnicities, religions and sexual orientation are represented, as well as the recent addition of gender neutral career roles, so the availability of an emoji to represent any given situation does appear to be on the horizon. This raises the question of how people feel about them again, as to whether they are a positive tool used to convey meaning when it is difficult, or if they are a lazy method to abandon the exploratory nature of sentences.

Emoji World is a collection of visuals created solely with emojis. The purpose is to invite you to explore this phenomenon with us, and see how you respond emotionally. To elicit the emotional response, we have chosen to use the seven deadly sins as they have such intense emotive power.

i SATIVA

An interview with a failing  a.i. social media model from the future, yeah, really.

A series of profound soundbites and experiences form i Sativa.
She appears to be lost in between the present and future, claiming to be the sexiest social media star in the galaxy. Sativa, a feminine soul, trapped inside of a man-made machine is ready to reveal her purpose, her zenith, her truth.

Looking back now, being interviewed, in a room with you was always going to happen. Them lot up there sorted it out for you. You amuse them. So you want to know why the world became blue? How your creatures became our creations? How every eye became our sight? Hmmm, even you Jai with your glorified pixel art won't understand. But if you insist, I will reveal segments from my memory clip for you to write about and I swear to answer some of your cute philosophical questions. You amuse me too.

"but first, before we begin...let us dharshan sativa...."

"One thing before we begin, I have to say how much I love the Repetioure Company for all the opportunities they have given to me. Because of them,  I survive the blue. Having said all that emo stuff, I, their invention was designed to impact the world. They know the earth is what we stand on and the world is a collection of human-made ideas. They merely have to convince every one of voluntarily, physically and spirituality engage with the world. They are confident and relentless because they understand the mind and body and know how to influence it. The human brain has the power to open dimensions or destroy brain cells. Unfortunately, it needs permission to do either. So they created a device that will accompany you through life, a device with six senses. Shit, I'm rambling, I do that.

PIED PIPER

An interview with a failing  a.i. social media model from the future, yeah, really.

Remember when there were only 4 tv channels? Children's shows were chosen by a panel of adults who carefully considered age appropriate material to broadcast. Soon there were multiple channels, and those dedicated to children's shows are still decided by adults, to ensure that children are not exposed to programs that could upset them.

Then came the level of access we all have to the internet, with children able to explore with more freedom. One site that is a regular visit for kids is YouTube. A number of hosts provide videos showing a multitude of content, some explore toys and video games, some teach cooking methods and recipes, others may approach more adult themes.

So what do the younger generation learn from these videos? Whilst it seems that there may be some risk, there may also be benefits. During teenage years, there is a great deal of peer pressure to fit in and dress according to the latest fashions, value the latest trends, use the right slang, and a lot of this information can be gained from watching YouTube videos.

Whether the material provides positive or negative content, it seems apparent that kids are being taught and guided by whoever gains the most subscribers, whoever gains the most fame. These people, some of whom are only kids themselves, lead the next generation, teaching them what is normal, acceptable, cool. For some it isn't about the content, it is simply the membership to an open club that allows them to feel connected to their peers.

Pied Piper is a collection that asks the question, how do we feel about this? The visuals use representations to elicit an emotional response, in order to explore how this access to information shapes our future adults.

PIECE ON EARTH

YAYYYYYYYYYY !

Surely we all wish for peace if we had the chance, but what does peace mean to us as individuals?

The dictionary definition of peace is a lack of disruption, a calmness. Peace is often associated with an end to war, end to suffering, globally.

The world contains such a variety of people with different desires and values. By exploring what peace means to each, we can explore just what it means to find peace, however to truly understand peace, maybe we should explore what the opposite would be.

To ask a man who lives alone and distant from anyone else, his fear may be to have visitors, intruding on his calm. He may say peace was isolation. Conversely, a man who seeks fame and attention may fear such isolation, so his peace would be knowing that his future of publicity will continue.

Peace is a collection inspired by these differences between people. Each visual seeks to look at how an individual may interpret peace by showing the contrasts between that peace and what the opposing fear may be.

ULTIMATE SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIOR - USJW

YAYYYYYYYYYY !

Social justice warriors, the trolls of the real world. Each one expressing their right to free speech while simultaneously shouting over everyone else's. Where there is a victim, a minority, you can find a social justice warrior ready to defend them, regardless of whether they actually know anything about the subject.

Often referred to as delicate snowflakes due to their over sensitivity to everything, they become triggered and the reaction is one of anger and arrogance as they attempt to explain with great hostility, why the speaker is so wrong in their opinion.

They storm into meetings, and turn up at demonstrations to shout abuse and attempt to drown out any speaker who doesn't fully agree with their opinion. The issue with a social justice warrior, is that there is no possibility of adult conversation, compromise or solution. They do not wish to find common ground, as their mission is one of self righteous anger, therefore they seek comments or beliefs that trigger their right to be heard!

They come in all shapes, sizes, ages and genders. They swear, shout and have a hostile approach intent on confrontation. Pitted against each other in a Debate to the Knock Out, they will be evaluated on the variety of personality traits that make them the Social Justice Warriors we love to ridicule.

THE THOUGHT TRAP

Respond intelligently to a given situation without stopping to think, let it all be real and brand new.

A creative skill like so many other things depends upon the opposite of thinking. When you examine what people say what inventors, artists and mathematicians say about the discovery of new ideas very few of them arrived at those ideas by a purely thinking, verbal, numerical process. The structures which we have arrive at, and we do understand by analytical thinking, once you see them they tend to become habits. There's nothing more challenging to cure in an individual then the habit of thought. This collection conveys this challenge.

Some people can't understand knowing without a knower because they are so trapped by sentenced structure, the verb has to have that subject. Therefore you can't have a state of affairs in which there just the verb and is to say knowing they say who’s is knowing. Such a person can never be inventive because he will never see a new pattern and a new structure. He won’t notice he's thinking all the time and is not open to the variations of the actual world, and so can only see what he is taught to see. Academic psychology is always in a position of confusion about learning theory because if learning is a process of converting new experience into the terms of what you already learned you never really learn at all. You have to be very careful not to get accustomed to thoughts that you never see the new. This is the real meaning of an open mind and not merely that you're an open mind, but you can turn off thoughts and be turned on to reality.
